The Solution
We delivered an 84m x 36m grain shed that stands 6m high with a 22° roof pitch. The structure uses 530 UB hot-dipped galvanised columns and Duragal open web joists spanning 14 bays of 6 metres each.
The three-sided design features walls that come down to 2.8m above ground on the long sides and one end. This protects the grain while leaving one end mostly open for truck access. We added a 6m wide top-hanging sliding door on the open end, mounted 2.8m off the ground so trucks can get underneath.
The gable infill starts 7m from the ground, then follows the truss down, adding extra protection without blocking vehicles. We included Rio cages for the concrete piers and made provisions for adding more galvanised sheeting later if needed.
All the steelwork is hot-dip galvanised and we used .47 TCT Zincalume sheeting throughout for durability in the rural environment.
Looking ahead, we included gable infill on one end with mounting points for future door tracks. This gives Grant the option to add roller doors down the track when his operation grows.
